Transparency and accountability is the core seed of any function decentralized governance system which envisages building accountability of public institutions to the citizens they are supposed to serve. Building efficiency and accountability of public institutions is seen as one of the ways of improving the exercise of power in managing economical and social resources. It is essential that citizens participate in this democratic process in order to reflect transparency and accountability in public administration.

'Darpana' in sanskrit means 'mirror'. This Project symbolizes the dire need for transparency and accountability in management of budgets without which the poor and the marginalised are exclusded from essential services and democratic participation.

Darpana aims to bring to the attention of the government the inadequacies in supervision, budget and infrastructure in various sectors of the society. We have done studies on several government initiatives in this area, supporting organisations refine resource allocation and policy making.
